Graphene membrane deformation

Graphene, known as the first discovered two-dimensional material, has been studied intensively in a broad range of applications since 2004. It has the highest known thermal and electrical conductivity, as well as extraordinary physical properties, e.g hundreds of times stronger than most steels by weight.

A graphene membrane is suspended on a 10 um diameter hole in SiN membrane. When decreasing the pressure under the SiN membrane, deformations of both SiN and graphene membrane were observed dynamically with DHM. One important goal of such application is to investigate the mechanical properties of the membrane.
